What is a Cooperative Preschool?

The Brecksville Cooperative Preschool is organized and administered by parents and staffed by quality teachers.  We seek to provide a pleasant preschool experience for both parent and child.  Our goals are the development of self-reliance and the encouragement of creative growth and social adjustment in preparation for school.

Active participation by all parent members (through committee or board positions, fundraising efforts and helper days) is vital in making our school function.

"One of my favorite parts of the Co-op is the parent and child get-togethers that happen before the school year even begins.”

– Jennifer G.

"The teachers do an amazing job of preparing the kids for kindergarten. Our oldest is in first grade now and she had no problem adjusting to kindergarten.”

– Lisa N.

"The Co-op definitely exceeded our expectations with staff who were warm and inviting and really understood childhood development.”

– Kim Y.

Our History

The Brecksville Cooperative Preschool was established on October 11th, 1952 by a group of innovative parents and incorporated on April 6, 1954.  There was one class
of children meeting three days a week for half a day.  During the first four years, classes were held at the American Legion Building.

In 1964, the school joined the Cleveland Day Nursery Association.  This group set the standards and evaluations for the schools before there were state guidelines.  From 1956 to 1991, the school saw moves from the Brecksville Methodist Church, Triune Lutheran Church, St. Matthews Episcopal Church until it's final home at Blossom Hill (a small cottage ideally suited to fit the needs of the Preschool).

Although many things have changed over the history of the school, the thingsthat have remained constant have been the parents and teachers dedication to high quality educational and creative programs. For over 70 years,we have demonstrated how parents and teachers working together can create a wonderful first school experience for our children.

Building & Grounds

We are located on the grounds of the Blossom Hill complex in Brecksville. We are in a stand-alone building and have a playground and outdoor toys we fully utilize to meet the needs of our students.  We also have full access to utilize the Blossom Hill soccer and baseball fields, picnic pavilions and the beautiful open grounds for our outdoor learning.  Our outdoor education includes science, physical fitness, pumpkin hunts and learning about our environment.
